Despite your hard work and dedication, it may be the constant sense of unease that you can’t shake most days. Coming home from a tough day at work to a messy kitchen, an unexpected exam you couldn’t prepare for, or even a loud noise or sudden shift in a conversation can leave you feeling panicked and overwhelmed, causing you to shut down. Irritability creeps in out of nowhere sometimes that is hard to get a grasp on, leaving you feeling guilty most days.
Daily tasks might feel overwhelming, and even though you push yourself to keep going, the emotional weight and fatigue never seem to ease. You may feel like you're not showing up as the person you want to be—whether it's in your career, your relationships. The pressure to stay strong or "move on" can make it seem impossible to get the help you need. Past experiences of therapy may have even left you feeling more frustrated and hopeless that anything could ever change.
Common experiences my clients have are:
If you’re looking for permission to get the right support, here it is! You don’t have to keep trying to push through or pretend everything’s fine. Let’s face it, it might not be and that’s okay. Therapy can help you finally release emotional weight and start healing in a way that feels right for you, at your pace.
Together, we’ll first create a safe space. Basically that just means trust needs to be built between us. You can get to know me and I can get to know you. Who wants to feel like they're sitting across from a stranger while sharing their greatest wounds? Not me. I will continue to keep that stuff locked up if that’s the case!
From there we will start processing your story at your comfort level and make sense of how it’s affecting your present.
Overall, we will spend time reframing negative beliefs from painful and tragic experiences and removing old images and sensations that keep you feeling stuck.
These painful experiences can be anything from not feeling seen by your father, when you lost a loved one, to being taken advantage of by a partner. Nothing is too big or too small.
Some of my clients enjoy working together through talk therapy. Others prefer to withhold details and heal as quickly as possible by using an eye movement therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Regardless, it will always be your choice in how you want to process your painful experiences.
To heal from our greatest wounds, it takes another bearing witness to those core stories, feeling truly heard. It’s at that point you can begin to truly live in freedom from them. I may also recommend resources such as podcasts, books, or support groups to expand your coping toolbox and support system.
Imagine for a moment how different your days could be if you weren’t weighed down by your past wounds..
You wake up in the morning without the heaviness or the constant anxiety about what’s to come. You are able to approach your work or school day with more clarity. You feel more yourself around friends and family with a greater capacity for responding to your emotions.
You’re finally able to look back on your past with gratitude and acceptance that your story, whatever it is, holds significance.
